LASH ARTIST EYE HEALTH
LASH ARTIST EYE HEALTH
SEE YOUR OPTOMETRIST REGULARLY
Most eye care professionals recommend that you have a thorough eye exam 1-2 years depending on various factors, such as age, lifestyle, career, health status and your current eye condition.

As Lash Artists we spend hours upon hours concentrating on tiny little, sometimes non existent lashes. The extreme precision and focus can cause eye strain and potentially result in a condition called Myopia (nearsightedness). Over a period of time your vision may change due to the eye strain of lashing.
What’s the solution?

It’s like teaching an old dog new tricks - EZPZ, right? NO. It’s nearly impossible. If you can learn to use a magnification lens during the application process it can help prevent eye strain from occurring in the first place. However, trying to use them after you’ve been lashing for a few years is retroactive and generally doesn’t work. Trust me, I wish I learned how to lash using magnifying glasses.
We highly recommend using magnification lenses for lashing and seeing your optometrist on a regular basis.

PROPER LIGHTING
When my best friend became a certified lash artist, I asked to use her lash room to do a set of lashes on a client (of course I am a lash artist) and when I walked in it was extremely dark so I asked her where her light was. She pointed to the light switch on the wall…… . She never had a light! No light! NO, I’m not even joking - not at all. She used the ceiling light which was about as bright as your ex boyfriend, seriously. I pulled up the chair, took out the lashes and I began lashing.
Let's talk about struggle, the eye strain, the anxiety, and the poor client. Safe to say she went to Walmart to buy a night light. I KNOW!!! A night light…. I KNOW. Guys, this was ages ago. We now have diva ring lights ;)

BLINK! Just BLINK!
Blinking can do wonders for your eyes, just like drinking H2O (kindaaaa but not as vital- ha). It lubricates your eyes by spreading your tears over the outer surface. It also helps clean your eyes to keep dust, bright lights and those irritants away.

I’m sure you are using top quality adhesives and other liquids, as well as professional lights (unlike my best friend back then) but your eyes are sensitive, and even good quality products can cause irritation so BLINK!

Grab some shades, girl!
Obviously, we aren’t lashing clients outside, unless you have the luxury of living somewhere tropical, and in that case I AM JEALOUS. Work on that tan, lash that client - live the dream. Okay, it’s been a long day for me…. But seriously!

When you are driving to and from work throw some shades. Also, use anti-blue light glasses during the application process to help protect your eyes from the harmful effects of blue light. Anti-blue light glasses are great to use, especially if you are a seasoned veteran and can’t use magnifying glasses.

EXERCISE YOUR EYES!
When you are staring at eyelashes for such a long period of time you can get a little dizzy, light headed, headaches and from my experiences sometimes your eyes feel cross eyed. How can you limit that by distance adjustments?

Purposely take the time to look at an object further away, to your left, or to your right, or even look up at the ceiling for a moment. Give your eyes a break. Treat them good. Treat yourself good.

LET’S TALK COLOURS
What’s your favourite colour? Oh, Me? I like pink. But, I also really like green. There is something so refreshing about the colour green! We actually even started to include it in our colour theme at HofG because GREEN is fabulous. Did you know that the colour green is proven to help improve vision, calm us down and help alleviate any irritation. Looking at greenery is a great exercise for your eye muscles.
Is it time for some fun decor renovations? I think so!

WORK THOSE GLUTES, WORK THOSE OCULAR MUSCLES - AMEN TO THAT!
Throughout your work day you can begin flexing your eye muscles to help stretch and strengthen them. How the heck do you do that? EZPZ. Face forward and look straight ahead. Keep your head in the same position but adjust your eyes from right to left, over and over again. Make it part of your daily routine. New year, new you kinda deal.

Food is EVERYTHING!
What you put into your body is what you will get out of your body. Yes, eat those carrots just like you were told as a child. Eat various foods such as fish, nuts and legumes, seeds, sweet potatoes and all kinds of GOOD food. Eat things that will benefit your body, mind and soul (if that's your thang). But seriously, eat food that is proven to be beneficial for your vision.

Sometimes I think we take it for granted. The ability to see the beautiful things life has to offer. At any point in time, your vision can be taken away from you. Be conscientious, be healthy and be a lash artist who is a leader in eye health!
